Each Sea Witch is a unique creation using air dry clay,beach finds,fabric and more mounted on a wooden base. In this sculpture, Esperanza is emerging out of the ocean, the water is still dripping off of her. This is her story: Esperanza is a Spanish word meaning "hope," and she is the very embodiment of her name. Of all the curiosities that captivate the Sea Witches, none delight Esperanza more than the hopeful hearts of humankind. She watches with fascination as beachcombers wander the shoreline, eyes cast downward, dreaming of treasures carried ashore by the sea. Hidden beneath the gossamer veil that separates her world from ours, Esperanza rises with the incoming tide, a weathered bucket clutched in her hands. One by one, she places seashells, sea glass, and other ocean gifts along the water's edge, allowing the gentle waves to nudge them onto the sand. Then she steps back beyond the veil and waits. Before settling into the quiet rhythms of everyday life, the two set sail together for a distant and exotic island, seeking one last adventure upon the open sea. Their days were filled with laughter, and their nights with dreams of the life that awaited them when they returned home. But the sea is as unpredictable as it is beautiful. On their return voyage, a violent tempest rose from the darkening horizon. Towering waves crashed against the ship as winds howled like restless spirits. Amid the chaos, Nimue searched frantically for her beloved, but the storm swallowed his voice and the sea hid him from her sight.
