Esperanza: a Sea Witch

Esperanza is a mixed media textile sculpture. Each Sea Witch is a unique creation using air dry clay,beach finds,fabric and more mounted on a wooden base. In this sculpture, Esperanza is emerging out of the ocean, the water is still dripping off of her.
This is her story:
Esperanza is a Spanish word meaning "hope," and she is the very embodiment of her name.

Of all the curiosities that captivate the Sea Witches, none delight Esperanza more than the hopeful hearts of humankind. She watches with fascination as beachcombers wander the shoreline, eyes cast downward, dreaming of treasures carried ashore by the sea.
Hidden beneath the gossamer veil that separates her world from ours, Esperanza rises with the incoming tide, a weathered bucket clutched in her hands. One by one, she places seashells, sea glass, and other ocean gifts along the water's edge, allowing the gentle waves to nudge them onto the sand.
Then she steps back beyond the veil and waits.
With a smile as bright as moonlight on calm water, she watches as her treasures are discovered. A child squeals with delight. A collector gasps at a perfect shell. A weary soul pauses to admire a piece of sea glass glowing in the sun.
In those moments, Esperanza knows her magic has done its work. For what she scatters upon the shore are not merely treasures from the sea, but small gifts of wonder, carried on the tide and wrapped in hope.
